Wrestling can help you improve your Jiu Jitsu technique in multiple ways. Many of the positions and guards in BJJ are similar and able to be utilised in wrestling as well. Here are just some of the benefits:

1. Win Scrambles

Wrestling can differentiate you from and give you an advantage over your opponent. Not accepting pins and takedowns will give you much better scrambling ability when rolling. Not giving your opponent positional advantages during a scrimmage will serve you better to implement your techniques and wear on your opponent.

2. Enhanced Technique

Wrestling will give you a technical advantage. Wrestling tends to make you develop certain positions to a much finer precision. Takedowns, side control, mount and other top positions need to be established and controlled. The ability to pin an opponent in a bad position is a skill in itself.

Wrestling rounds are hard work. It will improve your cardio conditioning and explosiveness by miles. Wrestling requires you to start from a standing position, where lots of strict BJJ training involves starting from your knees. The biggest difference between the two martial arts is grips and the lack of gi in wrestling. However, wrestling is a staple and fundamental part of BJJ, especially in NoGi Grappling.
